Q

how are gases fractionally distillated?

A
  • cooled to temp below -200 by increasing pressure and passing over cold water before releasing pressure - to let them condense as liquids
-co2 and water removed as it can solidify and break machinery used
  • mixture of the gases nitrogen, argos and o2 warmed slowly
-n2 boils off first - collected at top
    -argon boils off next
  • then o2 at the bottom as liquid
