Ainsworth- Uganda/Baltimore Flashcards
Uganda
In 1963 Ainsworth studied 26 families observing their interactions, watching mother-child relationships. She also interviewed the mothers and gathered data about the mother’s sensitivity.
Securely attached children show it by smiling at the loved person and crying when she leaves him. He gradually becomes attached through smiling and crying and through adjusting his posture to his mother, suckling her breast, looking at her, listening to her, vocalizing when she talks to him, scrambling over her, approaching her, following her, and clinging to her.
Baltimore
In also in 1963 Ainsworth looked at 26 families following them throughout their first year of life. Natural observations were used to look at face-to-face interactions, responsiveness to crying and physical needs e.g. bodily contact. They concluded the sensitivity of the mother related to the attachment type of the child.
