People are living longer due to advances in medicine and improved living standards .
Lots of babies born in 1940’s to 1969’s.
Since 1970’s less babies born- less young people so proportion of old people goes up.

More elderly people living in poverty due to the working population being small not being able to pay for pensions.
Government struggling to pay state pension.

The more children a women has, the earlier she will be allowed full retirement .

Child benefit and family tax credit- only to those earning under £50,000 per couple .
Sure start nurseries - paid by government and 3 free session of nursery for over 3.
Paternity leave - 2 weeks for father and extended maternity leave.
More flexible working hours
encouraged by government .
Wrap around care at school 8-6 , to encourage women to work and haven’t children .
