Aerodromes Flashcards
Define an Aerodrome.
A defined area(including buildings installations and equipment) on land or water or fixed off shore or floating structure intended to be used either wholly or in part for the arrival, departure and surface movement of aircraft.
Define a runway
A defined rectangular area on a land aerodrome prepared for the landing and take-off run of aircraft along its length
List the different types of runways
Cross runways
Parallel runways
Parallel offset runways
Independent diverging runways
Is the runway designator magnetic or true heading?
Magnetic
How are runway designators rounded up?
To the nearest 10 degrees
What does the term “runway in use” stand for?
It indicates a particular runway or landing direction selected by aerodrome Control as the most suitable at any particular time.
The runway in use should be that most closely aligned to the surface wind direction. True or False?
True
When selecting a runway what should be considered?
1) Surface wind (if light n variable consider 2,000ft wind)
2) Traffic Pattern
3) Runway lengths/Lansing runs
4) availability if Approach aids
5) Manoeuvring Area serviceability
6) Aerodrome Lighting
7) Weather
What is the definition of a Taxiway?
A defined path on a land aerodrome established for the taxiing of aircraft and intended to provide a link between one part of the aerodrome And another including
A) Aircraft Stand Taxilane
B) Apron Taxiway
C)Rapid Exit Taxiway
Define Aircraft Stand Taxilane
A portion of an apron designated as a Taxiway And intended to provide access to aircraft stands only
Define Apron Taxiway
A portion of a Taxiway systems located on an apron and intended to provide a through taxi route across the Apron
Rapid Exit Taxiway
A Taxiway connected to a runway at an acute angle and designed to allow landing aeroplanes to turn off at higher speeds than are achieved on other exit taxiways thereby minimising runway occupancy times
Define an APRON
A defined area on a land aerodrome intended to accommodate aircraft for the purposes of loading or unloading passengers, mail or cargo, fuelling, parking or maintenance
Define a Manoeuvring Area
That part of of an aerodrome to be used for take-off/Landing and taxiing is aircraft excluding aprons.
Define a movement Area
That part of an aerodrome intended for the surface movement of aircraft including the manoeuvring area aprons and any part of the aerodrome provided for the maintenance of aircraft.
