Aerodrome Suitability Flashcards
What are some things to consider when deciding if a runway is suitable?
Length Width RTOW/XXX charts Pavement strength Cert or Reg Nav aids Lighting Fuel/pressure refuel Parking Accommodation and taxi if staying overnight
What is the DHC8 200 and 300 main and nose tire pressure?
200 main 94PSI, nose 102PSI
300 main 101PSI, nose 62PSI
If the DHC8 tire pressure exceeds the PCN for a particular runway, is there any time we’re able to use the runway?
Yes, when the company has obtained a pavement concession, or in the case of an emergency.
What is the minimum runway width for our DHC8 operation?
30m
Are we able to plan to an aerodrome with no nav aid?
Only by day where the there is no predicted RAIM outage and forecast minimum cloud is not more than SCT below 500ft above the 10NM MSA and vis is more than 8km.
If by night or conditions don’t meet the above, a nav aid with IAP is required as the GPS fitted (TSO 129) is not approved as sole means of navigation as is doesn’t have FDE.
What is the minimum lighting requirements for an aerodrome at night to not require an alternate?
Electrical power with backup power,
PAL with back up power or portable lighting and a responsible person
If only PAL an alternate is required, the Alternate may be PAL and no holdings required with 2 VHF radios.
Does Cobham have agreements with any aerodromes to provide a responsible person? With which aerodromes? Where is this information found?
Yes with Broome, Gove, Horn Island and Weipa.
