Aerobic & Anaerobic Respiration 😮💨 Flashcards
What is aerobic respiration?
Respiration with oxygen
What is anaerobic respiration?
Respiration without oxygen
What do we eat that gives us energy?
Carbohydrates (primary source) and fats
What happens to the muscular system after exercise? (Short term)
Muscle Fatigue
Lactate Accumulation
Anaerobic exercise can cause a build up of lactic acid. This causes soreness and can lead to cramps
What happens to the Cardiovascular system after exercise? (Short term)
Heart Rate, Stroke Volume, Cardiac Output increase
What happens to the respiratory system after exercise? (Short term)
Rate and depth of breathing increases
Tidal volume increases
Increased gaseous exchange at lungs and muscles
Oxygen debt created from anaerobic exercise
What would be the long term effects of the muscular system after training the body?
Muscular hypertrophy would increase strength / power of muscles
Improved muscular endurance meaning the onset of fatigue is delayed
What would be the long term effect on the skeletal system after training the body?
Bones become stronger and more dense
Tendons and ligaments become stronger, thicker and more elastic
What would be the long term effect on the cardiovascular system after training the body?
Helps the athlete to perform to a higher level
Perform for longer
Recover quicker
Vital for endurance athletes
What would be the long term effect on the respiratory system after training the body?
