what type of pads should be used on children 8 and under?

A

pediatric pads; pediatric dose attenuator = usually connected to peds pads for reduced shock dose. use adult pads if no peds pads; make sure adult pads do not touch each other

A

typically AP placement (center on front and center on back). then try anterolateral placement

how to use AED on children?

A

0) connect pediatric dose attenuator to pads?
1) turn on AED
2) peel away backing
3) place pads on bare chest
4) if there’s a switch to have reduced dose, turn that on
5) clear victim during analysis and before shock delivery
6) clear and shock
7) if no shock advised or after shock delivery, cont chest compressions. check AED q 2min for shock rhythm

how to use AED on infants?

A

1) you should use a manual defibrillator
2) otherwise you can do AED + pediatric dose attenuator
3) if nothing else, use regular AED, make sure pads don’t touch each other

A

leave victim to activate emergency response system and find AED before doing CPR; use AED asap vs send someone to activate emergency response system and find AED; you start CPR; use AED asap
