When do the advertising rules apply for boats and equipment?
from time of the official opening of the venue until the end of the official closing ceremony (or end of last medal ceremony if not closing ceremony)
When do the advertising rules apply for rowers and clothing/accessories?
when on the water during the hours of racing (when traffic rules for racing take effect). And, when on or near the victory pontoon or stage whilst ceremonies are in progress.
What items are prohibited from advertising/sponsorship?
tobacco
e-cigs
strong liquor (more than 15%)
and substances on the World Anti-Doping Close List of Prohibited Substances and Methods (e.g. cannabis, as is legal in some countries)
Also, advertising which is harmful to the image of rowing, inappropriate or in contradiction to the WR statues/RoRs ec.
Can an advertiser who deals in a prohibited product be advertised if it does not promote the prohibited product?
Yes
Can advertising include links to content/QR code?
Yes, so long as the content is permissable under the advertising rules.
Is there a sanction for a crew that has raced with advertisement infrigements?
Yes, relegated to last place. If races again with naughty advertising then will be Excluded from the event.
Penalty for breaking the advertising rules during a victory ceremony?
Relegated, excluded or otherwise penalised. Medals already awarded may be withdrawn and awarded to the next placed crew in that event.
What is the definition of ‘Identification’? List the 7 examples
display of a name, designation, trademark, logo or any other distinctive sign or mark. E.g.
Manufacturer
Product Tech
MF or club
Name of the boat (but not manufacturer)
Sponsor of MF/club
Sponsor of Individual
WR identification
In the sponsor space, can there be more than one sponsor?
Yes subject to overall size not exceeding the permitted size, and where it needs to be identical within a crew.
Can a regatta use the WR reserved space if WR aren’t using it?
Yes, so long as WR agree
If a manufacturer is a sponsor, can it use both spaces?
Yes, but can’t create one massive space, has to keep to two spaces.
If area for manufacturer is not used, what can it be used for?
Nothing
On the oars, what identifications can be different per individual?
Manufacturer only
What is included in a National Identity?
national colours
country name and/or 3 letter code
national flag (as approved by WR for ceremonies)
and any internationally recognised symbols of the country.
Define ‘racing uniform’?
shirt and shirts, or one-piece equivalent.

Where is the boat manufacturer logo and name permitted on a boat?
Logo: within first 50cm from the bow, and be no more than 80sqcm in area.
Manufacturer identification/name: appears once on each side, within section where rowers are (normally near stroke). 100sqcm max. Can’t be where WR reserved space is.
What is the position of the WR reserved space on flat water boats?
Small boats, first 80cm of where the athletes sit
Big boats, first 100c, of where the athletes sit.
includes country code.
What identifications for Sponsor(s) are allowed on the side of a 1x?
one identification, no more than 800sq cm.
What identifications for Sponsor(s) are allowed on the side of a 2x, 2-?
two sponsor indentifications on each side, no more than 600sqcm
What identifications for Sponsor(s) are allowed on the side of a 4x, 4-?
four sponsor identifications on each side, no more than 600 sq cm
