Von Hippel Lindau (aacount for about 20%).
They usually get their tumors earlier (otherwise 30-60yo)
What are the most frequent presentations of hemangioblastoma? (5)
- H/A 70%
- hcph/raised ICP sympt 50%
- Cerebellar dysfunction 50-60%
- Altered mental state 10%
- Polycytemia due to EPO production occurs in 5-40%
What factor might be produced in hemangioblastoma?
Erytropoietin -EPO
What part of a hemangioblastoma is usually the cause of symtoms?
The cystic component.
What WHO grade is a hemangioblastoma?
WHO 1
Describe pathology of hemangioblastoma
- capillary hemangioma.
*well circumscribed - a highly vascular mural nodule almost always abutting the pial layer and a peripheral cyst that has similar contents as blood plasma. - often xanthochromic
- IT IS DEBATED IF THE CYST NEEDS TO BE RESECTED.

about 90-95% intracranial.
of them:
85% cerebellar hemisphere
10% vermis
5% medulla
only rarely in cerebellopontine angle
*5% SUPRAtentorial.
SPINAL: 5-13%
How often is recurrence seen after hemangioblastoma resection?
25%
