Adrenergic Receptor Agonist Flashcards
What are the non-selective agonist?
Norepinephrine and Epinephrine
What is the only alpha-1 agonist and it’s action?
Phenylephrine. Theurapeutic: nasal congestion. S.E.: Postural hypotension
What are the alpha-2 agonist and it’s action?
Clonidine and Methyl-dopa. Hypertension. S.E.: Sedation
What is the only beta-1 agonist?
Dobutamine. Like Do is the first in do-re-mi
Use for CHF used to increase cardiac output.
What the B2 selective agonist?
Think asthma and bronchodilation
Albuterol and Terbutaline
What is the only MIXED Beta agonist?
Ephedrine has direct and indirect beta agonist
What is the only non-selective Beta agonist?
Isoproterenol
How to differentiate between N.E. and Epi?
Epinephrine can lower BP, because of B2 receptor.
Also because the B2 receptor is not innervated N.E. cannot reach the receptor.
How to differentiate between Epi and Isoproterenol?
Low concentration beta response dominate, so only pick epi if you’re sure
How to differentiate between between Epi and dobutamine?
Medium does epi just like dobutamine.
Epi has B2 response(vasodilation) is physiologic antagonism by alpha 1(vasoconstriction).
Therefore, epinephrine has a Beta-1 response just like dobutamine that causes tachycardia, BUT NO CHANGE IN MAP
