Q

Sulbutamol/ Terbutaline

Salmeterol ( long acting)

A

B2 agonist

Relaxation of Bronchial SM, blood vessel. Decrease duration of skeletal muscle contraction and increase glycolysis and glycogenolysis

Hypotension,Flushing, skeletal muscle tremor, tachycardia( palpitation), disturb carbs metabolism

Over use leads to tolerance, drug interaction with B blocker, correct use of anti inflammatory min use of B agonist, banned during competition

Oral or IV

Q

Metoprolol

A

B1 antagonist

Reduce in heart rate, renin release, reduction in cardiac output. Oxygenation is improved.

For hypertension

Con: hypotension, heart failure

SE: cardiac failure, at high dose: hypoglycaemia, bronchospasm

Q

Propranolol

A

B antagonist

Reduce heart rate, renin release. Reduce cardiac output. Myocardium better oxygenated.

Contract Bronchial SM. Decrease insulin level

For hypertension, glaucoma

Con: hypotension, asthma, hypoglycaemia

SE: cardiac failure, bradycardia, hypoglycaemia, bronchospasm
