Short Synacthen test - Cortisol should double
Serum cortisol
Give ACTH
Serum cortisol 30 min
Serum cortisol 60 min
Serum ACTH
High in primary, Low in secondary
Labs
Hyponatremia
Hyperkalaemia
Acidosis
Symptoms
Weakness
Fatigue
Hyperpigmentation if Addison’s - Creases, Lips, Buccal Mucosa
Craving Salt
Thirst
Adrenal crisis signs
Hyponatraemia
Hypotensive
Decreased consciousness
Adrenal crisis triggers
Infection
Trauma
Treatment
Fludrocortisone, Hydrocortisone
