A

v. fast growth esp. height, girls: starts at 10 + peaks at 12, boys: 12-15, muscle growth is later, can start earlier or later than milestone, arm/leg growth rapid so quickly outgrow clothes, girls: hips widen, boys: greater muscle development + shoulders broaden

hypothetical problem solving (e.g. algebra) develops, increased conc. span + lang. skills (e.g. info organisation), more learning strategies learned esp. through practice (some lose curiosity to learn unlike childhood)

emotional development

A

body image importance grows as self-concept does (partly due to puberty) - can reduce self-confidence + esteem, self-consciousness develops (can lead to shyness), mood swings (partly due to hormones action on the brain), autonomy (independence) increases - emotional support = friends > family so easier to be away from home, better at decision making and looking after self (can lead to defiance to authority figures), form self-opinions, sexual attraction intensifies due to puberty

A

stronger friendships that last longer, greater peer influence + less parental influence, social awkwardness as well as skills increase e.g. unlikely to see likely effects of their actions, typically brief, intense sexual relationships
