mood and behavioral symptoms onset within 3 months of an identifiable stressor.
marked distress and/or functional impairment.
does not meet the criteria for another DSM- 5 disorder.

differential diagnosis?
A
normal stress response ( not excessive, no significant imairement).
acute stress disorder ( traumatic event, intrusive re-experiencing).
major depressive disorder ( > or equal 2 weeks, 5/9 symptoms, depressed mood +SIGECAPS.

management?
A
psychotherapy is treatment of choice. adjunctive pharmacotherapy ( short term, reserved for rapid relief of impairing symptoms (ex: sleep aid, anxiolytic).

A
sleep disturbance, interest loss, guilt excessive, energy low, concentration impaired, appetite disturbance, psychomotor agitation/retardation, suicidal ideation.
