What is an Adjective?
A word that describes a noun and generally comes before one.
What are some common Adjective endings?
-able/-ible, -al, -ful, -ic, -ive, -less, -ous.
What are the three scales of Adjectives?
Absolute, Comparative, and Superlative.
What is an example of an adjective on the three scales?
Light, lighter, and lightest.
What is Comparison?
When an adjective is applied to the three scales.
What is Gradability?
If an adjective can take an intensifying word like “very” or “extremely” before it.
What is an Attributive Adjective?
An adjective that comes before the noun.
What is a Predicative Adjective?
An adjective that comes after the noun. (I.E.: times past)
What are Inherent Adjectives?
Adjectives that attribute to the noun they modify.
What are Non-Inherent Adjectives?
Adjectives that refer less directly to the noun they modify.
What are Stative Adjectives?
Adjectives that denote a state or condition.
What are Dynamic Adjectives?
Adjectives that denote attributes which are, to some extent at least, under the control of the one who possesses them.
What are Nominal Adjectives?
Adjectives that share some of the characteristics of the noun.
What are Denominal Adjectives?
Adjectives derived from nouns. (i.e.: a mathematical puzzle)
What endings signify Participial Adjectives?
The -ed form and the -ing form.
