How is the adenovirus transmitted?

A

Usually enters the host by inhalation of the droplets nuclei or by oral route

Direct inoculation of the nasal, conjunctiva mucosa by hands and contaminated towels

Discuss the pathogenesis of the adenovirus

A

The virus replicates in the epithelial cells and initiates necrosis and inflammation

Viraemia sometimes occurs and spreads to distant sites eg kidneys

What are the clinical manifestations of adenovirus

A

Larg % of the population is asymptomatic with most presenting with features of UTI, respiratory diseases, eye infection, and gut infection
