Adenosine Flashcards
adenosine target
G-protein coupled receptors on neurons
1st activity
activates A1 receptors (found on neurons and keep brain awake)
neurons become less active
2nd activity
activates A2A receptor
found on neurons that initiate sleep
neurons become more active
physiology
combination of the activation of the 2 receptors means weaker wake signal and stronger sleep signal
feel more refreshed when you wake up, due to the fact you have less adenosine when you wake
clinical
used to bring heart rate back to normal rhythm
decreases heart rate
delay action potential in the SAN
administration
IV
side effects
diarrhoea
warm feeling
nausea
passing of gas
used in treatment for
scintigraphy
supra ventricular tachycardia
