Additional Flashcards
VEGF
Vascular endothelial GF; Required angiogenic growth factor
Hypoxia > ____ > ____
HIF; VEGF
Vasculogenesis
Embryonic formation of endothelial cells from the mesoderm layer to form new blood vessels
Angiogenesis
New blood vessels from from pre-existing ones formed in the early stages of vasculogenesis
Sprouting angiogenesis
tissues with low oxygen produce VEGF which results in blood vessel sprouting
Intussusceptive Angiogenesis
Aka splitting angiogenesis; the formation of new vessels by splitting a pre-existing one
FIH
Inhibits HIF thus inhibiting angiogenesis
ANG-1
Binds to TIE-2 and promotes vessel maturation by stimulating endothelial cells
ANG-2
Antagonist of ANG-1; In combination with VEGF, promotes neovascularization (vasculogenesis + angiogenesis)
TIE 2
ANG-1/2 can both bind to this; when ANG-2 binds to this along with VEGF resulting in angiogenesis
TIE 1
Does not directly bind angiopoietins but promotes angiogenesis
Hemidesmosomes and desmosomes connect to?
Intermediate filaments
What filaments are associated with adherens junctions?
actin filaments
The adrenal cortex produces
mineralcorticoids, glucocorticoids, and androgens/estrogen
The adrenal medulla produces
catecholamines
