What was the halfway covenant

A

To cope with the 3rd gen of colonists not baptized/church members, a limited form of membership was developed for anyone not known to be a sinner and willing to accept the provisions of the church covenant. Both them and their children could be baptized, but couldn’t receive communion or participate in church decisions.
