What is Addison disease?
The adrenal gland is damaged in Addison’s disease, so it does not produce enough cortisol or aldosterone.

The adrenal medulla produces the catecholamines, which function is to produce a rapid response throughout the body instress situations.

What is the role of cortisol in the body ?
- It helps control the body’s use of fats, proteins and carbohydrates;
- Suppresses inflammation;
regulates blood pressure; - Increases blood sugar; and
can also decrease bone formation. - Yhis hormone also controls the sleep/wake cycle. It is released during times of stress to help your body get an energy boost and better handle an emergency situation.
