ACVL Flashcards
What is the minimum requirements for strength testing of concrete?
- Once a day
- Not less that once for each 100 yd3 of concrete
- Not less than once for each 5000 ft2 of surface area
What is the maximum nominal size for coarse aggregate?
- Not larger than 1/5 the narrowest dimension between sides of the form
- Not larger than 1/3 the depth of the slab
- Not larger than 3/4 the minim clear spacing between reinforcement
What’s the minimum temperature that concrete should be kept at for the first 7 days?
50 F
What’s the minimum depth of a concrete ring wall below grade?
2 ft
What is the typical slope of a tank foundation?
1” in 10’ (1/120)
What are soil particles larger than 2 mm called?
Coarse fragments
What are soil particulars smaller than 2 mm called?
Fine earth
How much sand must a soil contain to be sand?
84 percent sand
What are the benefits to sandy soils?
- Drain rapidly
- Remain soft or light
- High bearing strength
What are the largest particles in soil?
Sand
What are the requirements of silt soils?
80 percent silt and less than 12 percent clay
What property do silt soils have?
Optimal amount of soil water retention
What are the requirements for clay soils?
45 percent clay, less than 40 percent silt, and less than 45 percent sand
What is the disadvantage of soils that contain too much clay?
Water may never drain through it
What type of soils don’t make good building foundations?
Clay because they are likely to change volume and crack as moisture content changes
