Q

What are dislocations?

A
  1. Dislocation is the displacement of one bone form another out of their original position
  2. A dislocation occurs from a direct force (collision) or an indirect force (falling) pushing the joint past its extreme range of motion
  3. A subluxation often causes damage to ligaments and increases the likelihood of recurrent dislocations. This may compromise an athlete’s career

Q

What is contusion and haematoma?

A
  1. A contusion (bruise) is an area of tissue where blood vessels have become damaged
  2. While it is usually a minor injury, severe contusion can cause deep tissue damage and ultimately a haematoma
  3. Haematoma is internal bleeding, ranging from minor bruises under the skin to deep tissue bleeding

Q

What is a sprain?

A
  1. Sprains are caused by a sudden twist, impact or fall that forces the joint beyond its extreme range of motion

Q

What is a strain?

A

Q

What is concussion?

A
  1. Concussion is a traumatic brain injury resulting in a disturbance of brain function
  2. Concussion occurs after a trauma to the head
  3. A blow to the head can cause swelling and possibly a disruption in the electric processes of the brain
18
Q

A

Signs:

  1. Possible post-traumatic seizure
  2. Loss of consciousness
  3. Balance problems
  4. Disorientation

Symptoms:

  1. Lying motionless
  2. Headache and dizziness
  3. Visual problems
  4. Nausea
