Acute bronchitis: presentation
A
inflammation of the trachea and major bronchi
cough: may or may not be productive
sore throat
rhinorrhoea
wheeze

A
No focal chest signs on examination e.g. dullness to percussion

Acute bronchitis: Management
A
- analgesia
- good fluid intake
- consider ABX:
- systemically very unwell
- have pre-existing co-morbidities
- CRP of 20-100mg/L (offer delayed prescription) or a CRP >100mg/L (offer antibiotics immediately)
- Abx: doxycycline first-line
(avoid in children or pregnant women –> amoxicillin)
