Ernie: I purposely went around so you wouldn’t have to go through the door.
Oh hi! Where’s Claire?
Cookie: She went out to the kitchen to let Ernie in.
Oh. OK.
Ernie: I’m beginning to feel like one of my patients
Me: well everything is just fine.
Claire: it’s all right. They’re in the kitchen
Me: God I’d smoke a Havana cigar if I had one. I’m getting hives under my arms. Did you hear about Ken? He’s deaf.
Claire: he’s better off. He’s out of this thing now
Me: why are we protecting Charlie this way? Ken is deaf. Lenny can’t turn his neck. Cookie’s walking like a giraffe, I’m getting a blood condition. For what? One more gunshot, the whole world will know anyway.
Lenny: there’s another car coming up. Was anyone else invited?
Me: Harry and Joan but they canceled. They went to Venezuela. But they said they’d call tonight.
Lenny: so who’s coming up the driveway?
Me: maybe it’s Myra. Maybe she’s come back.
Lenny: Ken is reading lips right now. I don’t think he can pick up on Audi. Jesus what the hell was that?
Me: cookie just blew up the microwave what else?
Ernie: damn I burnt my fingers! Hot hot hot oh God it’s hot
Me: oh dear
Claire: do you know what this night is beginning to remind me of? Platoon.
Me: there’s the car. I don’t even want to know who it is. Why don’t you go and look?
Claire: like it’s going to be good news right? It’s Glenn and Cassie
Me: Glenn and Cassie Cooper? Together?
Claire: that’s how they are walking
Me: I heard they were having trouble.
Claire: not walking
Me: Jesus! Do you know that Glenn is running for the state Senate in Poughkeepsie.
Claire: so
Me: that’s all he needs is to walk in here and be part of a hushed up suicide attempt. He can kiss his career goodbye.
Clear: maybe ken will figure this all out before they rang the doorbell. Well it’s going to be a tough campaign.
Me: listen I have to go to the bathroom. You get the door. I’ll be right out.
Clear: wait a minute! I haven’t gone since I got here
Me: yes you did. And Mai Li’s room.
Claire: yes but no one was at the door then.
Me: the hell with it. Someone else will get the door. Come on.
Cassie: to rinse off my crystal. I suppose you’d like to make a quick phone call while I’m gone heh? Anyone in there?
Me: who is it?
Cassie: Cassie. Who’s that?
Me: it’s Chris. Just a minute Cass. I didn’t hear you ring Cassie. I would’ve opened the door. Hi Glenn.
Glenn: hi. Listen is anything going on here?
Mia: I don’t know. Who have you seen?
Glenn: well Lenny and Ken for just a second. And the Butler and Mai Li.
Me: you saw Mai Li and the butler? My God, I must have been in there for a long time.
Cassie: are you through in the bathroom
Me: me? Yes. Sure.
Cassie: is there anyone else in the bathroom because I have to go.
Me: Mai Li and the Butler are here.
Claire: you’re kidding. Where’s Ernie and cookie.
Glenn: I just met Ernie. Isn’t he the Butler
Me: oh. No. OK. We’ve got that one cleared up.
