Ach Lab 3-GI Flashcards
At what vertebral level is the celiac trunk?
T12
What vertebral level is superior mesenteric?
L1
Vertebral level of inferior mesenteric?
L3
What are the major branches of the celiac trunk?
Common hepatic
L gastric
Splenic
What layer is the celiac trunk usually found underneath?
Lesser omentum
What arteries anastomose in the lesser curvature?
Left and R gastrics
What is the Left Gastro-omental artery a branch of?
Splenic Artery
What is the Right Gastro-omental artery a branch of?
Gastroduodenal artery
Where do the celiac artery and the SMA anastomose?
Within the liver
Where do peptic ulcers most commonly form?
What artery is most likely to be hit?
Ampulla of duodenum
Gastroduodenal artery
What side of the SMA do the jejunal and ileal branches come off?
Left
What branches exit the right side of the SMA?
Ileocolic
Appendicular
Right Colic
Middle Colic
What does the Middle colic artery supply?
Proximal 2/3 of the transverse mesocolon
How can you differentiate the Jejunum from the Ileum?
Jejunum has more circular folds and less fat
What are the major branches of the inferior mesenteric artery?
L colic a
Sigmoidal a
Superior Rectal a
What are the sacculations in the colon called?
Haustra
What is a watershed area?
An area that receives dual blood supply from the most distal branches of two large arteries.. Essentially sparing them from ischemia if one goes down. However, in a systemic hypoperfusion, these regions are susceptible to ischemia due to the fact that they are supplied by the most distal arterial branches and are least likely to receive sufficient blood!
Where is pain initially referred in appendicitis?
Umbilicus (T10).
What does rebound tenderness at McBurney’s point indicate?
Inflammation is no longer limited to the bowel and it has extended to the parietal peritoneum.
What is a portal system?
Arrangement of vasculature in which blood must pass through 2 sets of capillaries between the L ventricle and the R atrium
What are the two sets of capillaries in the hepatic portal system?
- Gut wall
2. Liver
What is the large lymph node at the junction of the aorta and celiac trunk?
Cisterna Chyli
Which of the following vessels would need to be clamped to control bleeding from a perforating duodenal ulcer?
- Proper hepatic
- Splenic
- Gastroduodenal
- IVC
- R Gastric
- Gastroduodenal
A small specimen from a portion of the GI tract was taken for pathological examination. The specimen revealed abundant circular folds. Which organ is the likely source of the speciment?
Jejunum
Which of the following is not a site of portal-caval anastomoses?
- inferior esophageal vein/L gastric vein
- Middle colic vein/L colic vein
- paraumbilical vein/inferior epigastric vein
- superior rectal vein/inferior rectal vein
- Middle colic vein/L colic vein
Which of the following organ/blood supply relationships is correct?
- appendic/inferior mesenteric a.
- Hepatic flexure/celiac trunk
- Liver/Celiac Trunk
- Pancreas/inferior mesenteric artery
- Spleen/superior mesenteric a.
- Liver/Celiac Trunk
