what are 7 examples of limitations agencies may face when achieving social control
- recidivism
- legal barriers
- access to resources
- finance
- local/ national policies
- environment
- crime committed by those with moral impreratives
what is recidivism and how does it act as a limitation
- recidivism is repeat offenders.
it can be a limitation as if offenders keep failing rehabilitation and committing crimes when out of prison, social control will not be met. reconviction rates are at 48% within a year
how does legal barriers act as a limitation
everyone has certain rights such as free spech or freedom to assembily, this can hinder social control, a main thing it limits is deportation.
CASE: ABU QATADA- it was ruled that he couldnt be deported due to the possibilty that he may be torchered in his country.
how does access to resources act as a limitation
after release from prison, prisoners would face may different barriers and if support is not availible for them then they may reoffeder therefore not achieving social control
how does finance act as a limitation
the police is facing many budget cuts therefore thye dont have enough equipment or officers to successfully patrol and carry out there dutys to achieve social control. same with prisons its budget has decreased by a quater.
how does local and national policies act as a limitation
some areas may have police prioritisation meaning they care more about one crime than another so offenders go unnoticed and social control is not met
how does environment act as a limitation
when prisoners are released into there home environment they may be faced with the same situation they were in as before leading to reoffending,
how does crime committed by moral imperatives act as a limitation
this is when someone believes they need to commit the crime and often they are failed to be rehabilitated.
