A
rational ideology, tradition, internalised social rules and morals

how is rational ideology an form of internalised social control
A
- people are naturally full of feeling of guilt, anxiety and worry which can cause people to follow the rules.

how is tradition a form of internal social control
A
- can include personal or family traditions/ norms ensuring you conform to rules
- religion or upbringing can also cause people to conform.
- fear of punishment or disapproval from family

- “common sense”
- ability to work out what’s right and wrong

A
coercion, general deterrence, individual deterrence

A
- can come in physical and non violent forms
- may be imprisonment or death penalty
- having them in place may stop people from committing crime as they know they would be punished

A
- its a punishment imposed specifically and directly on them to stop them from committing crime
- e.g. suspended prison sentence

- fear of punishment that prevents others from committing similar crimes
e.g. long prison sentences or harsh punishments
