AC power must be established on aircraft and fire/ smoke detection/ protection systems tested before the Overhead Panel Prep procedures is accomplished

Ground Power (if available )

A

ON
If ground power is available, connect to both busses.
Verify Transfer Bus off, Source off, BAT Discharge, TR UNIT, ELEC, Standby
Power OFF lights are extinguished.

Fire Protection System

A

TEST
FAULT / INOP Detection ………………………………………………………………. Check
OVHT/DET Switches – NORMAL
TEST Switch – Hold to FAULT/INOP
Verify MASTER CAUTION, OVHT/DET Annunciator, FAULT and APU DET INOP
lights are illuminated.
If the FAULT light fails to illuminate, the fault monitoring system is inoperative.
If APU DET INOP light fails to illuminate, do not operate APU.
OVHT / FIRE Warning ………………………………………………………………….. Check
NOTE: The Fire Warning Light flashes and the horn sounds on the APU Ground
Control Panel with the APU operating.
TEST Switch – Hold to OVHT/FIRE

Master FIRE WARN Light – Push
Verify Master FIRE WARN lights and Fire Warning bell cancel.
Verify Engine No. 1, APU, and Engine No. 2 Fire Warning switch and Engine No.
1 and Engine No. 2 OVERHEAT lights are illuminated. If AC busses are powered,
verify WHEEL WELL fire warning light is illuminated.
Verify FAULT Light and APU DET INOP light remain extinguished. If FAULT light
illuminates, a detection loop is inoperative.
NOTE: On some aircraft, the WHEEL WELL fire light may illuminate with no AC
power on the aircraft. Even if this occurs, the test must be repeated once
AC power is established.
Extinguisher TEST Switch …………………………………………………………….. Check
Position TEST switch to 1 and verify the green Extinguisher Test lights are
illuminated. Release switch and verify the lights are extinguished. Repeat for test
position 2.
Verify Fire Warning bell sounds, Master FIRE WARN lights, MASTER CAUTION
lights and OVHT/DET annunciator illuminate.

CARGO FIRE TEST

A

CHECK

NOTE: If AC power is not available, delay the Cargo Fire/Smoke System check
until after the APU has been started and placed on the busses.
DETECTOR SELECT Switches – NORM
(System) TEST Switch – Push
Verify Fire warning bell sounds and Master FIRE WARN lights illuminate.
Master FIRE WARN Light – Push
Verify Master FIRE WARN lights and Fire warning bell cancel.
Verify the green EXT (FWD, AFT) test lights are illuminated.
Verify Cargo Fire (FWD, AFT) Warning lights are illuminated.
Verify DETECTOR FAULT light remains extinguished.
Verify the Cargo/Fire Bottle DISCH light is illuminated.
NOTE: If a Cargo Fire Warning light does not illuminate and the DETECTOR
FAULT light illuminates, a detection loop is inoperative.
(700F) Main Deck Smoke Detection System ……………………………………….Test
NOTE: Wait at least 10 seconds after power-up to perform system test.
On Main Deck Cargo Smoke Detection Control Panel, press TEST button and hold
until aural warning sounds and the test sequence is complete, then release.
Verify:
Fire warning bell sounds
Master Fire Warning lights illuminate
Red SMOKE light illuminates
A and B status indicators illuminate green

NOTE: If any of the status indicators illuminate amber or if the DET FAULT light
illuminates, contact Maintenance.
(700F) Lavatory/Supernumerary Smoke Detection System…………………..Test
On Lavatory/Supernumerary panel, press TEST button and hold until aural warning
sounds and then release.
Verify:
Fire warning bell sounds
Master Fire Warning lights illuminate
Lavatory SMOKE light illuminates
Supernumerary SMOKE light illuminates
NOTE: If either of the SMOKE lights do not illuminate or a fault light illuminates
during the test, contact Maintenance.

APU(If required)

A

START & ON BUSSES

Prior to APU start:
Verify APU BLEED Air Switch – OFF
Verify PACK Switches – OFF
#1 AFT FUEL PUMP – ON
APU – Start
NOTE: See 6.080, APU Start for additional APU start information.
When the APU GEN OFF BUS light is illuminated:
APU GENERATOR Bus Switches – ON
Verify that the SOURCE OFF lights are extinguished.
Verify that the TRANSFER BUS OFF lights are extinguished.
NOTE: Run the APU for two minutes before using it as a bleed air source.
Battery Charger Operation – Check
BAT DISCHARGE Light – Extinguished
WHEEL WELL Fire Warning System ……………………………………………………Test
NOTE: Delete this test if AC busses were powered during the fire warning check.
The FIRE WARNING light flashes and the horn sounds on the APU Ground
Control Panel with the APU operating.
TEST Switch – Hold to OVHT/FIRE
Verify Fire warning bell sounds, Master FIRE WARN lights, MASTER CAUTION
lights and OVHT/DET annunciator illuminate.
Fire Warning BELL CUTOUT Switch – Push
Verify FIRE WARN lights and Fire warning bell cancels.
WHEEL WELL Fire Warning Light – Illuminated
