What is Abnormal uterine bleeding
A
Any symptomatic variation from normal menstruation. Can be amount, regularity, length and postcoital, intermenstrual.

Acute vs chronic abnormal uterine bleeding
A
Acute - episode that requires immediate clinical intervention to stop further blood loss.
Chronic - Abnormal bleeding present for most of the previous 6 months

PALM-COEIN: Structural: Polyps Adenomyosis Leiomyoma (fibroids) Malignancy/hyperplasia
Non-structural: Coagulopathy Ovulatory dysfunction (inc. thyroid) Endometrial Iatrogenic e.g. contraception Not yet classified (DUB)
