Abdomen and inguinal ring lecture Flashcards
Abdomen
body region from caudal extent of thoracic region to cranial extent of pelvis
Differences between peritoneal cavity and pleural cavitiy
no negative pressure in peritoneal cavity, peritoneal cavity is in the abdominal cavity and pleural cavity is in the thoracic cavity
Vaginal process
abdominal extension of the peritoneal cavity
Vaginal cavity
peritoneum that extends out of the abdominal cavity and lines the structures of the vaginal process
Why does the female K9 possess a vaginal process
Female gene turns on later during fetal developement
Peritoneum types
Parietal- against walls, Visceral- on organs, Connecting- between dorsal wall to organs (mesentery) and organs to organs (ligaments)
Broad ligament
mesentery
Number peritoneal cavity in the fetal and after birth
Fetal: 2.
After birth: 1.
Borders of deep inguinal rings
Rectus abdominus, internal abdominal oblique, inguinal ligament
Borders of superficial inguinal ring
External abdominal oblique
Inguinal canal
space between the deep inguinal ring and the superficial inguinal ring
Structures that pass through the inguinal canal for both genders
External pudendal a. and v., genitofemoral n., vaginal process, gubernaculum
Vaginal ring
Transition from parietal peritoneum to vaginal tunic. It is superimposed on the deep side of the deep inguinal ring
Purpose of the gubernaculum in fetal development
To guide the male gonads into the scrotum
Remnants of the gubernaculum in the female
Suspensory lig of the ovary- dorsal wall to ovary;
Proper lig of the ovary- ovary to tip of uterine horn;
Round lig of the uterus- tip of uterine horn to vaginal process
