abdomen Flashcards
serves as a scout view for various radiologic exams
AP Projection/KUB
CR RP of AP
perpendicular to level of IC
- Most valuable for demonstrating free intraperitoneal air.
- Best demonstrate air and fluid levels.
AP UPRIGHT PROJECTON
AP UPRIGHT Patient should be upright for a minimum of ____ but ____ minutes is desirable
5 minutes, 10-20
CR of AP UPRIGHT
horizontal to 2-3 inches (5 cm) above level of iliac crest
projection of the abdomen greatly reduces patient gonadal dose.
PA
CR of PA
perpendicular to the level of iliac crest
- Best visualize free intraperitoneal air in the
area of the liver in the right upper abdomen away from the gastric bubbles in cases of bowel obstruction or perforated viscus. - Alternative position/projection if the patient cannot stand for an upright abdomen.
LEFT LATERAL DECUBITUS
CR of LLD
horizontal to 2-3 inches (5 cm) above level of iliac crest
- Valuable in demonstrating
prevertebral space - Useful in determining air-fluid levels.
- Calcification of the aorta or other vessels.
- Umbilical hernias.
DORSAL DECUBITUS POSITION
CR of DORSAL DECUBITUS
horizontal to 2 inches above iliac crest.
Demonstrates the prevertebral space occupied by the abdominal aorta, as well as any intraabdominal calcifications or tumor masses.
LATERAL PROJECTION
CR of LATERAL
- Perpendicular to IR at the level of the iliac crest
- Perpendicular to IR at the level of 2 inches
above iliac crest (diaphragm included).
