Buerger’s angle
The angle to which the leg has to be raised before it becomes pale, whilst lying down
Remains pink = normal
<20 degrees = severe ischaemia
Buerger’s test
Both feet raised in the air (whilst lying down)
If sig arterial disease, foot will go white
then hang legs over side of bed
White foot goes brick red - reactive hyperaemia
ABPI values
Normal 0-8 - 1
Claudication 0.6-0.8
Critical ischaemia <0.6
Definition of critical limb ischaemia
Greater than 2 weeks duration
Ankle pressure <40 mmHg
Symptoms - rest pain or tissue loss
AAA screening
Offered to all men >65 years
> 3cm - yearly f/up
4.5cm - 3 monthly f/up
5.5cm - surgery
Define varicose veins
Dilated superficial tortuous veins
Trendelenburg test
For varicose veins
Hold leg up and milk out blood
Occlude sapheno-femoral junction (2cm below and lateral to pubic tubercle)
then stand - if veins don’t fill then proves issue is with the sapheno-fem junction (veins fill due to reflux)
Tourniquet test is this but with tourniquet
