Q

How was the investiture issue solved?

A
  • the issue of investiture was the question of whether popes or kings had the right to invest bishops (investiture).
  • the concordat of worms solved the investiture issue. The kings and popes agreed that the church had sole power to elect and invest bishops with spiritual authority. The emperor however had the right to invest them with fiefs.
  • although there would be a power struggle that continued to exist between the kings and popes, the issue of investiture had been solved.
