9.2 Fibrous Joints Flashcards
1
Q
Three types of fibrous joints
A
1) sutures
2) syndesmoses
3) interosseous membranes
2
Q
Suture
A
Occur between bones of the skull.
In children they are amphiarthroses, but become synarthroses in adulthood.
3
Q
Synostosis
A
Bony joint, a complete fusion of two separate bones into one.
4
Q
Syndesmosis
A
Fibrous joint where there is greater distance between articulating surfaces and more dense irregular connective tissue than in a suture.
5
Q
Gomphosis
A
Cone shaped peg fits into a socket.
6
Q
Interosseous membrane
A
Dense irregular connective tissue that binds long bones and permits slight movement (amphiarthrosis).
