9.1 Palm of Hand Flashcards
Identify the palmar aponeurosis
-
Identify the palmaris longs muscle and tendon.
Describe its innervation and function.
Innervated by median nerve.
Functions in weak flexion at the wrist.
Identify the palmaris brevis m.
Describe its innervation and function.
Innervated by ulnar nerve.
Fxns to tighten palmar aponeurosis.
Identify the muscles of the thenar eminence. i. Abductor pollicis brevis ii. Adductor pollicis (ulnar nerve) Oblique and Transverse Head iii. Flexor pollicis longus and brevis iv. Opponens pollicis v. Lateral two lumbricals
What are these innervated by?
General function?
Innervated by median nerve (except Adductor pollicis)
Mobilize the thumb.
Lateral 2 Lumbricals work on index and middle finger.
Identify the muscles of the hypothenar eminence.
i. Abductor digiti minimi
ii. Flexor digiti minimi brevis
iii. Opponens digiti minimi
iv. Medial two lumbricals
v. Interossei (dorsal and ventral)
What are these innervated by?
Innervated by Ulnar nerve.
Medial two lumbricals (ring finger and pinkie fine) innervated by Ulnar.
Identify the muscles of the anterior forearm
i. Pronator teres (two heads)
ii. Pronator quadratus
iii. Flexor carpi radialis
iv. Palmaris longus (variably present)
v. Flexor carpi ulnaris (ulnar nerve)
vi. Flexor digitorum profundus (lateral two digits by ulnar nerve)
vii. Flexor digitorum superficialis (two heads, deep)
viii. Flexor pollicis longus
What nerve are these innervated by?
What is their general function?
Innervated by median nerve (Flexor carpi ulnaris and lateral 2 digits of flexor digitorum profundus innervated by ulnar nerve).
Work as flexors and pronators of the forearm and hand
Identify the superficial palmar arch.
formed primarily from ulnar a.
Identify the deep palmar arch.
formed primarily by the radial artery, running with the deep branch of the ulnar nerve near the medial aspect of the adductor pollicis
Identify the radial artery.
?
Identify the ulnar artery.
?
Identify the common palmar digital arteries and the palmar digital arteries.
Superifical arch–> Comon palmar digital aa–? palmar digital aa.
Identify the palmar interossei, describe their attachments, function, and innervation
Innervated by ulnar nerve.
Ex: 1st palmar interossus m. originates from the ulnar side of the 2nd metacarpal bone and inserts onto the dorsal digital expansion of the 2nd digit and onto the base of the proximal phalanx of the 2nd digit.
