what is relief?
Relief is a term used by geographers to describe the physical features of a landscape, which includes:
- height above sea level
- shape of landscape features
- steepness of slopes
where are the uplands in the uk generally found?
- in the north and the west
where are the lowlands in the uk generally found?
- in the south and the east
what is igneous rock?
**- igneous rock is formed from the lava magma from the mantle cools **
- it is quite resistant to erosion
- as it cools crystals form in the rock
what is sedimentary rock?
-** rocks that are formed by layers of sediment being compacted together until it becomes solid rock**
- limestone and chalk are examples, they are made from fossilised animals, limestone is harder
- clay and shale is also sedimentary and formed from clay and mud, so they are much softer
what is metamorphic rock?
**- metamorphic rock is formed when older metamorphic rock or sedimentary or igneous rock is put under heat and pressure **
- this forms a new type of rock called metamorphic
- the new rock becomes more compact and harder
the sedimentary, softer rock is more likely to be found where in the UK?
