**- igneous rock is formed from the lava magma from the mantle cools **
- it is quite resistant to erosion
- as it cools crystals form in the rock

what is sedimentary rock?

A

-** rocks that are formed by layers of sediment being compacted together until it becomes solid rock**
- limestone and chalk are examples, they are made from fossilised animals, limestone is harder
- clay and shale is also sedimentary and formed from clay and mud, so they are much softer

**- metamorphic rock is formed when older metamorphic rock or sedimentary or igneous rock is put under heat and pressure **
- this forms a new type of rock called metamorphic
- the new rock becomes more compact and harder
