9. The lungs Flashcards
What is the lymphatic system in the lungs and pleura?
Drain into bronchopulmonary nodes then into tracheobronchial nodes and eventually thoracic duct and right lymphatic duct
What are roots vs hilum?
Roots= collection of structures that pass through hilum of the lungs
What are the structures found in the root of the right lung?
Most anterior: Superior pulmonary vein
Most inferior: inferior pulmonary vein
Most posterior: bronchus
Most superior: pulmonary artery
Can also find oesophagus, IVC, SVC, right subclavian artery/vein
What are the major structures of the root of the left lung?
Most posterior: bronchus
Most inferior: inferior pulmonary veins
Most anterior: superior pulmonary vein
most superior: Pulmonary artery
can also find: aortic arch, descending thoracic aorta, oesophagus, left subclavian artery
What is the nerve supply of the bronchi? Parasympathetic and sympathetic
Parasympathetic: bronchoconstriction and secretomotor to bronchial glands
Sympathetic: bronchodilation and inhibitory to bronchial glands
What supplies blood to bronchi?
2 bronchial arteries (left lung) and 1 bronchial artery (right lung)
