9. Coronaviral infectious disease (canine, feline) Flashcards
Describe Coronaviral infectious diseases?
Caused by virus from family Coronaviridae
RNA virus with S-protein (spikes)
Affecting mammals, birds and man
What are the 4 genuses family Coronaviridae?
- Alphacorona virus - swine, canine, and feline coronavirus
- Betacorona virus - bovine, equine, swine
- Gammacoronavirus - avian
- Deltacoronavirus - swine
What are canine coronavirus responsible for causing?
GIT infection
What are the agent responsible för causing canine coronavirus?
Canine coronavirus - alphacorona virus
What are susceptible hosts for canine coronavirus?
Canine (all age and breeds)
What is transmission of canine coronavirus?
Fecal-oral transmission
What are clinical sign in dog with coronavirus?
2 forms:
- Uncomplicated form –> mild and GIT symptoms
- Complicated form –> diarrhea, sometimes bloody with foam, dehydration and fever.
How is canine coronavirus diagnosed?
- Hematology - Leukopenia and neutrpenia
- Serology - Detect Ab against coonavirus
- RT-PCR
- Feces
How can both canine and feline coronavirus be prevented?
Hygiene measures
Vaccines - intranasal
What agent is responsible for causing feline coronavirus?
feline corona virus - alphacoronavirus
What are the susceptible host for feline coronavirus?
Feline - esp. young (3 months - 3 years old) and multicat environments
What does feline coronavirus cause in host?
GIT and RT infection, can cause vasculitis
How is feline coronavirus transmitted?
fecal-oral and vertical transmission
What are clinical signs of feline coronavirus?
GIT: diarrhea, vomiting
RT: dyspnea, ascites
Vasculitis and may involve CNS and eye
How is felina corona virus diagnosed?
- Serology: Detect Ab against coronavirus
- RT-PCR and ELISA: Detection of Ag
- CSF fluid, feces
