Swine vesicular disease virus, family Picornaviridae, genus: Enterovirus

What is swine vesicular diseases causing in host?
Lesions (blister, vesciles) of oral mucosa membrane (blister on tongue) and foots (between hooves)
What is transmission of swine vesicular disease?
- Horizontal - by rupture of skin vesicles, saliva, meat
- Fecal-oral transmission
Clinical signs of swine vesicular disease?
!! Do not loose condition as in ruminants Foot and mouth disease
- Mild fever: with or without clinical signs
- Formation of vesicles on snout, lips and coronary band, interdigital space, tongue and throat
- Lameness
- Young pigs are more seriously affected but do not die
How is swine vesicular disease diagnosed?
- Diagnosis and history: difficult to differentiate between other vesicular diseases
- Sample from vesicles- RT-PCR
- Serological tests- check for Ab by VNT, ELISA- check for Ab or Ag
Treatment of swine vesicular disease
No treatment. Slaughter in highly infected areas! NB! 3 km protective zone.
How is swine vesicular disease prevented?
- Hygiene measurements
- Cleaning and disinfection
- Treatment of meat.
- No vaccine!
