Non-enveloped DNA virus, very resistant.

How is Aleutian disease transmitted?

What are clinical signs of Aleutian disease?
There is a long incubation period: from 2-3 months for up to several years.
Acute = sporadic
Chronic = change in behavior, GIT (loss of appetite, loose weight, diarrhea), CNS and abortion
May die if not culled (slaktad)
How is Aleutian disease diagnosed?
Post mortem examination - Emaciation, inflammation and necrosis to GIT and CNS destruction can be seen.
Counter Immuno Electrophoresis (CEP) - Blood sample to detect Ab to the virus
What is treatment for Aleutian mink disease?
No treatment
How can Aleutian mink disease be prevented?
Quarantine of minks
Control of import
Reular testing (during autumn before mating)
Breed resistant minks
Cull (slakta) positive cases
