How did advances in engineering and machines affect factory work and factory workers?
- Advances in machinery meant fewer workers were needed in the factories and the workers were unskilled

Mass production-making lots of goods quickly and cheaply

Manchester grew so fast because more and more factories provided work there

- Standard of living improved, wages increased

Problems included-loss of jobs for skilled workers.
- poor quality of goods as priority was quantity - poor safety conditions for workers - harsh working environments: no heating or colling, noisy, cramped, long hours, unsanitary conditions and poor lighting
Explain how the assembly line worked in Henry Ford’s car factory?
- Fords factory had workers completing one part of the vehicle all day-as the car moved down the line
What was special about the 1908 Ford Model T automobile?
- It was cheap so cars were no longer just for the wealthy
In what way was ford’s bussiness model different from many other industrialists?
- Ford had his workers well and sold his car cheap
How do current automated assembly lines differ from ford’s time?
- Today robots do a lot of the work at a car factory and workers monitor the robot.
