83: DIGITAL RADIO AND AUDIO INTEGRATING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (DRAIMS) Flashcards
DIGITAL RADIO AND AUDIO INTEGRATING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (DRAIMS) Reason for Issue: Introduction of the new Digital Radio and Audio Integrated System (DRAIMS) which replaces and merges the functions of
the legacy Radio Management Panels (RMPs), Audio Control Panels (ACPs) and XPDR/TCAS control panel into a unique digital Radio Management Panel (RMP) along with a redesigned Audio Management Unit (AMU).
DRAIMS basic configuration consists of the following control panels:
- Digital RMP 1 located in the left-side of the pedestal panel
- Digital RMP 2 located in the right-side of the pedestal panel
- Third occupant ACP located in the overhead panel
RMs and ACPs of both Captain and First officer are replaced by a single RMP for each Captain and First officer and the ATC/TCAS panel is removed. On the overhead panel the ___ panel is removed, and the 3rd Occupant Audio Control Panel is different.
Audio Switching
The RMP allows the pilot to see at a glance the active and standby frequencies selected for all the installed radios of each type (up to 3 VHF radios, 2 HF radios and single or dual channel SATCOM installations). The ___ indicator has been deleted.
SEL
All information is now fully ___ between all RMPs in the cockpit. This includes active and standby frequencies of all installed radios, and STBY NAV tuning.
synchronized
Alerts from the FWS, TCAS and GPWS are broadcast through the boomsets and headsets, in addition to the loudspeakers. The two amplified loudspeakers are replaced by
two standard non amplified loud speakers.
Failure case management has been simplified and the appropriate procedures are available in the FWS; for example, in case of RMP failure, the single action of switching off the associated RMP automatically activates
the reconfiguration onto the remaining available RMP or ACP.
Improved audio quality and reduced interference and background noise due to the use of
digital communications protocol.
The system gives nearly ___ of weight reduction per aircraft due to the reduced number and size of LRU, thus contributing to fuel savings in addition to a Power consumption reduction of up to ___.
4kg / 26%
Ground crew call audio function is directly interfaced with AMU through ___.
ACP 3
In case of loss of ACP 3, the ___ function is lost. AMU is directly interfaced with different aircraft systems to provide audio functions and radio navigation backup functions.
ground crew call audio
In the case of AMU total failure, audio functions are lost and RMP 1 automatically activates
the RMP 1 XPDR1/ TCAS backup control mode.
DESCRIPTION OF DRAIMS RMP PAGES

The ATC page shows the status and all operating modes of
the transponder and TCAS. The active system or operating modes are shown in cyan reverse video e.g.
XPDR1.
