When do you use the short form?
when talking to friends or family members. (People who you address with first-name)
Are you going to school today? (Short form)
きょう、がっこうにいく?
No, I am not going. (Short form)
ううん、いかない。
Do you know this kanji? (Short form)
このかんじ、わかる?
What kind of music do you listen to? (short form)
どんなおんがくをきく?
in such questions, ka at the end is skipped but intonation is rised in the end of the sentence
Are you good? (Short form)
げんき?
だ is usually dropped while speaking, but it has to be there written
Mary is a second year student
メアリーさんはにねんせいだよ。
If you use ね or よ in the end of the sentence, you cannot skip だ。
How do you answer short form questions?
you use うん instead of はい and ううん instead of いいえ。

うん、する。
No, I dont do it
ううん、しない。
