8.2 Polygons Flashcards
Polygon
A closed figure in a plane determined by three or more straight line segments
Regular polygon
Has all sides of the same length and all angles of the same measure
Triangle sum theorem
The sum of the measures of the interior angles in a triangle is 180°
How do you determine the sum of the measures of the interior angles in any polygon?
(n - 2) x 180
N being the number of sides
Acute triangle
All angles in triangle are acute
Obtuse triangle
One angle is obstuse
Right triangle
One angle is a right angle
Isoceles triangle
Two equal sides, two equal angles
Equilateral triangle
Three equal sides; three 60° angles
Scalene triangle
No two sides are equal in length; no two angles are equal in measure
Similar (~)
Two figures are similar if their corresponding angles have the same measure and the lengths of their corresponding sides are in proportion
Congruent (equal sign with tilde over it)
Congruent figures are similar figures that have the same corresponding side lengths (equal side; equal angles)
Quadrilaterals
4 sided polygons, sum of the interior is 360°
Trapezoid
Two sides are parellel
Parallelogram
Both pairs of opposite sides are parallel and equal in length
