8 - Vascular Scaffold Flashcards
1
Q
SC segments with most gray matter
A
- Lower cervical and lumbosacral enlargements
- Upper, lower limbs
2
Q
SC segments with most white matter
A
- More rostral segments
- Greatest at cervical levels, least at sacral
3
Q
Gray matter in SC
A
- Middle (stained white)
- Contains all neurons/cell bodies
- Three Components:
- Dorsal gray horn
- Intermediate gray matter
- Lateral horn if applicable
- Ventral gray horn
4
Q
White matter in SC
A
- Outer (strained dark)
- 3 main axon bundles
- Dorsal funiculus (aka dorsal column)
- Divided into cuneate, gracilis fascicului
- Lateral funiculus
- Ventral funiculus
- Connected to each side by ventral white commissure
- Dorsal funiculus (aka dorsal column)
5
Q
A
A) Dorsal gray horn
B) Intermediate gray zone
C) Lateral horn (T1-L2)
D) Ventral gray horn
6
Q
A
A) Fasciculus gracilis
B) Fasciculus cuneatus
(A+B) = Dorsal Funiculus/Dorsal Column
C) Dorsal median sulcus
D) Dorsal intermediate sulcus
E) Ventral funiculus
F) Ventral white commissure
G) Lateral Funiculus
7
Q
Dorsal Funiculus
A
- Comprised of fasciculi gracilis and cuneatus
- Only present at cervical and upper thoracic levels
- Below mid-thoracis, no cuneatus, just gracilis
- Ends at the lower medulla
8
Q
Ventral Horn Landmark
A
Lateral part is not present at thoracic levels
9
Q
Lateral Horn Landmark
A
Only present at T1-L2
10
Q
Fascicului landmark
A
- Gracilis is present at everylevel
- Cuneatus is only present at cervical and upper thoracic levels (~T5 and up)
11
Q
Arterial Vasocarona
A
- ASA, PSA Anastamoses in SC
- Supply the peripheral lateral aspect of SC white matter
- Sporadically reinfoced by collateral spinal medullary arteries
12
Q
Rhombencephalon
A
Medulla + Pons
