They are made with the purpose of allowing as many people as possible to see and join in,The altar is also more towards the centre of the congregation
What was St Anselm’s belief of redemption
He believes that Jesus paid our ransom for our sin by dying and being punished whilst being innocent.We were slaves to sin but set free by his paying of our ransom
What was St Irenaues’s belief over redemption
He believes that Adam and Eve gave us sin and broke the bond between Humans and God through eating of the tree.Jesus died on the cross made of a tree and restored the bond between God and humans
Why is salvation past
We are saved due to Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross and this takes the punishment and allows us to be saved
Why is salvation present
It’s ongoing as whilst Christ sacrificed himself for us we still need to repent and ask for forgiveness and accept Christ’s sacrifice to be saved
Why is salvation future
In the future God will come back and salvation will be full as the power of sin is destroyed

The inner voice of God in our minds that Guides our decisions and tells us right and wrong
How can christians educate their conscience
By reading holy scriptures such as the bible and the 10 commandments and 2 great commandments from Jesus

Its the place where the readings are read from at the front of the church
What is an altar
Place of sacrifice, from where the bread and wine are offered to God at mass
What is a crucifix
A model or image of the cross with Jesus crucified on it
What is a tabernacle
It is a box where the consecrated bread is kept after the mass
What does using a table at mass remind the congregation
It reminds the congregation that the mass is a re-enactment of the last supper

Catholics come together to celebrate the mass and apologise to God and each other for their sins

Atleast 3 readings are given from the Bible, with one always taken from the gospels. The readings remind catholics that God has guided his people

The priest repeats the words that Jesus said at the last supper. At the end Jesus is fully present in the bread and wine and the command to eat and drink enables christians to share in Jesus’ offering made to God on the cross

The priest offers the bread and wine to everyone in the congregation. Catholics recieve the body and blood of christ which binds them to christ and the new covanent

The priest blesses and dismisses the congregation. Catholics leave the church to share the presence of christ with everyone they meet, so helping to spread the kingdom of god

The body and blood of Jesu Christ truly present on the altar under the appearences of bread and wine

Salvation means being saved from sin, done by God as he sent his son Jesus to save us from sin

When Jesus went up to heaven to be seated at the right hand side of God

When Jesus came back to life after his death on the cross

It is not clear who the ‘ransom’ is paid to, and some christians this implies there is someone above God
What does the risen christ remind catholics
It reminds catholics that in Holy Communion, they receive the Body, blood, soul and divinity of the risen christ
Why is the belief in the risen christ important to catholics
It focuses on christ as the risen, glorified saviour. Like the cross, the risen christ emphasises Jesus’ resurrection and how important this was

Some share the catholic understanding that the bread and wine become the body blood of christ. Many believe the spirit of christ is received when communion is given

it means hearing the word of God and acting on it

Jesus redeemed humanity through his total obedience to God. This means he made up for the sins of humanity so people could be brought back to a relationship with God

Christians believe that when Jesus died was buried he joined everyone else who had died before him - this shows that God is with them even in death

Jesus’ resurrection made life after death impossible by destroying the ultimate power of sin and death. When Jesus was resurrected all those who died before him were sent to heaven
Significance of Jesus’ ascension
The ascension shows that Jesus is with the father, sharing his glory for all eternity. Just before he ascended into heaven, he promised to send his spirit to all people

Mark 14-15: Jesus knew how much suffering his crucifixion would cause him but he still went through it. Showing his total obedience to God and setting an example for people to follow

When Jesus first appeared to Mary after his resurrection, she didn’y recognise him immediately, shows Jesus was physically different and had entered a new creation. Reflects the idea that redemption changed creation, making it more perfect

After Jesus ascended to heaven, 2 angels told the disciples he would return in the future. Meaning Jesus will complete the redemption of the world at the end of time, when sin and death wil be completely defeated
What do Quakers understand about the eucharist
- they do not celebrate any form of the eucharist
- instead they believe that christ is present through the spirit, who inspires their prayers and actions

The teach that the “eucharist is the source and summit of the christian life”
What do orthodox christians believe about the eucharist
Many have very similar understanding of the eucharist to catholics. Like catholics they believe the christ is fully present in the consecrated bread and wine

- the eucharist is always celebrated with the community; a catholic priest can say mass on his own
- more empahsis is placed on symbolism and ritual

Many believe the eucharist is a memorial of the last supper; this means its purpose is to remember the Last supper and its importance

This is a service where the consecrated bread is put on display in the monstrance. The real presence of christ is praised and the congregation are blessed with the real presence

Means adoring or honouring the real presence of christ in the consecrated bread and wine
2 ways catholics show eucharistic adoration
Receiving communion on their tongue as it reminds them they are receiving Jesus himself. And benediction

A prayer said shortly before communion refering to the lamb of God and recalls the Jew’s escape from Egypt

- st irenaes metaphor of a tree to explain redemption. He compared the tree of good and knowledge to the tree of the cross

The belief that christ is truly present in the eucharist
