8/7/13 Flashcards
Enveloped Virus
Herpes, pox,
Killed Vaccine
- Will not emulate a natural infection and thus will not allow an immune response to occur in the same way as the natural infection
- Killed Vaccines function to decrease entry of the virus into the cell.
Opportunistic infections following transplant
- CMV is a common opportunistic infection during times of immunosupression
- CMV is a DS DNA virus that has intranuclear and intracytoplasmic inclusions.
TB Granuloma
- Casseating, necrotic, acellular inside of granuloma with walled off, cellular outside, circular.
-IFN gamma is critical in recruiting and maintaining macrophages around the periphery of the granuloma.
IFN gamma is secreted by T helper cells. TNF alpha is secreted by macrophages to recruit monocytes to become histiocytes and wall off the granuloma.
Leukotriene
-Smooth muscle contraction (BV and Bronchioles) and increases permiabilty of BV.
Thromboxane A2
Causes platelet aggregation and vasoconstriction.
Platelet Activating Factor
Smooth muscle constricion and increased vascular permiability
C3a
-Anaphylatoxin that causes release of histamine from basophils resulting in vasodilation
IL-4
Th2 growth factor and causes switching to IgE
IL-5
Promotes B cell maturation and activates eosinophils, increases IgA
Haemohilis Ducreyi
- Painful genital ulcer with lymphadenopathy.
- Appears as school of fish http://www.netterimages.com/image/63751.htm
Kleibesella inguinale
- Donovanosis, intitially painless ulcers that can turn into elephantitis
- Intracytoplasmic cysts -
HSV-2
- Genital Herpes, Vesicles develop into shallow ulcers with pain.
- Cowdry A http://library.enaca.org/Health/FieldGuide/histopage/ihhn.htm
Treponema Pallidum
- Painles chancre
- syphilis
Chlamydia trachomatosis
- Painful Ulcers with lymphadenopathy
- chlamydial inclusion bodies, intracellular bacteria
