What is Mass extinction ?
It refers to a substantial increase in the degree of extinction or when Earth loses more than 3 quarters (75%) of its species in a geologically short period of time
What has happened in the earlier 5 mass extinctions ?
Destruction of 70-95% of the species of plants, animals and microorganisms . These were caused by Catastrophic alterations such as Massive volcanic eruptions, Depletion of oceanic oxygen, Asteroid collision etc
What is 6th mass extinction referred as ?
Anthropocene or Holocene extinction (ongoing)
How is 6th mass extinction caused ?
Human caused and is more immediate than Climate destruction. The rate of extinction is also estimated 100-1000 times higher than natural background rates
