Context ?
Recently , a study on this revealed that this Yojana hasn’t been able to achieve its intended objectives
When was this Yojana launched ?
In 2014, on account of birth anniversary of JP Narayan
What is it basically ?
It is a “Village Development Project”.
Under this, MPs are responsible for developing the socio economic and physical infrastructure of 3 villages each by 2019 and a total of 8 villages by 2024
Objective ?
To substantially improve the standard of living and quality of life of all sections of the population through improved basic amenities, higher productivity and better livelihood opportunties
Implementation ?
1) Gram Panchayat : Basic unit of development
2) Lok Sabha MP : Chooses a gram Panchayat from within his/her constituency
3) Rajya Sabha MP : Choose a Gram Panchayat from the rural area of a district of his/her choice in the State from which he/she is elected
4) Nominated MPs : Chooses a Gram panchayat from a rural area of any district in the country
But all these MPs cannot choose their or their inlaws villages
If MPs face fund issues ?
They can mobilise resources from CSR, in the end they can also use up some part of their MPLAD funds
