7A - Tissues and transplants Flashcards
What are the seven life processes?
Movement Reproduction Sensitivity Growth Respiration Excretion Nutrition
What are all organisms made form?
Cells
What is the function of the cell surface membrane?
Keeps the cell together and controls what goes into and out of the cell.
What is the function of the nucleus?
Controls the cell
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
Is the place where activities happen (for example, respiration in mitochondria)
What is the function of chloroplasts?
Contain chlorophyll to trap sunlight for photosynthesis.
What is the function of the cell wall?
Provides support (is made out of cellulose).
What is the function of the vacuole?
Serves as storage space
What is A?
Cell surface membrane
What is B?
Nucleus
What is C?
Cytoplasm
What is D?
Chloroplast
What is E?
Vacuole
What is F?
Cell wall
What type of cell is cell A?
Animal cell
What type of cell is cell B?
Plant cell
Total magnification =
Total magnification = Magnification of objective lens x magnification of eyepiece lens
How is the object you look at through a microscope called?
Specimen
What would you see if the specimen is very thick? Why?
Nothing would be seen. If the object is too thick, no light can pass through.
Where is the specimen placed?
Onto a slide (with a drop of water)
What is placed on top of the specimen? Why?
A coverslip. To prevent the specimen drying out, hold it flat, and stop it from moving.
Why is sometimes a stain used?
To help you see parts of the cell trough a microscopic cell
